Faith Flourishing in the Hidden Corners of Somalia

The following story is from one of our Frontline Strategic Partners (FSPs) in Somalia.
This month, we had the privilege of serving 60 people through our ministry in Somalia—each one carrying a unique story of faith, resilience, and hope.
We gathered for a special retreat, bringing together brothers and sisters who serve in some of the most challenging and isolated parts of our country. We also welcomed emerging leaders—those who are newer to the work—giving them the opportunity to sit alongside and learn from brothers and sisters who are a few steps further along in their journeys of faith and service.
The impact was deeply felt. Here are just a few of the powerful testimonies we heard:
Not alone anymore…
“I always felt I was the only believer, and that I would be lucky to see one more person from my community who is a follower of Jesus. This week, I have seen so many, different ages and from different corners, I am so encouraged to see men of my father’s age, women of my mother’s age, my age-mates, parents, and their children all worshipping the Lord in my mother tongue!”
Reaching the invisible
“We are women, and in many cases, we are invisible in our society. The Lord has enabled us to capitalize on being unnoticed to reach remote areas and minister to the many invisible women there. We are seeing a harvest, and we are so grateful to be equipped to care for it.”
Walking through the valley of the shadow…
“I have literally lived out Psalm 91. I lived in the capital city of our country in one of the most horrible wars. I witnessed death and destruction all around me, yet like the Psalmist, I felt the Lord held my hand and caused me to walk through it unharmed and unscathed.”
Hidden in plain sight…
“I was a senior government officer in my country. No one around me knew of my faith. I was part of a team that got two files with your names (pointing at two of us) on them. The religious leaders had flagged your names, and we were tasked with investigating you. The Lord used my position to help shield you.”
These stories are a great reminder that no act of faith—quiet or unseen—is ever wasted. God’s presence moves through every heart, every circumstance, and every step of obedience. Just as the psalmist declares:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.”—Psalm 23:1–3
Let us continue to pray for courage, wisdom, and perseverance for all who serve the Lord faithfully, so that the Lord continues to protect, guide, and strengthen them.
